Plus, Southern Belles relocates to West Ashley

Full Circle

Mariana “Mini” Hay Avant’s whimsical jewelry brand Goldbug Collection has moved into its permanent home on King Street, the same building where her great-grandfather, William Croghan, set up his jewelry workshop in 1907. The narrow space has been reimaged by Caitlin Dirkes Design with light blue displays and green accents, as well an antique jukebox. Avant introduced the Goldbug Collection, known for its palmetto bug earrings, in 2014. Since then, the brand has expanded to include necklaces, bracelets, and earrings adorned with bees, peanuts, and okra pods and opened its first retail store on Spring Street in 2024. The latest garden-inspired collection features ladybugs, caterpillars, daisies, and a watering can charm. Engraving is available on-site. Last summer, Croghan’s Jewel Box relocated to 155 King Street. [308 King St., www.goldbugcollection.com]

Fit for a King

Gwynn’s of Mount Pleasant is extending its presence in the Lowcountry, bringing its luxury shopping experience to a two-story, 2,600-square-foot building on King Street. Shoppers can find a curated collection of designer clothing, shoes, accessories, and fine jewelry for men and women, including brands such as Brunello Cucinelli, Pomellato, and Kwiat. In addition, the store will feature private shopping suites, a full-service hospitality bar, and an event space, where it plans to host brand activations and other gatherings. Gwynn’s was founded in 1967 by Gwendolyn and Norris Ward. Today, it’s run by their son-in-law, Marshall Simon, and his daughter, Madison. Doors of the King Street store are expected to open next month with a grand opening in October. [154 King St., www.gwynns.com]

On the Move

After 31 years in Mount Pleasant, owner Susie Molony is relocating her Southern Belles children’s boutique to the South Windermere Center in West Ashley, next to Rhodes Boutique. The shift comes after Molony moved to West Ashley several years ago and noticed the need for a children’s clothing store in the area. Shoppers can find classic clothing and shoes in sizes for infants to tweens, as well as bibs, blankets, bedding, and gifts. [82 Folly Rd., www.southernbelleschildren.com]
