Style-savvy gallerist Anne Siegfried on fun prints, the art of accessorizing, and dressing for new possibilities
May 2021

After George Gallery moved from Bogard to Broad Street in 2018 and started to represent the estate of William Halsey, for whom the College of Charleston art institute is named, owner Anne Siegfried knew she had to “step up her game.” Now, when deciding whether to add a new artist, she considers if his or her work can “hold up next to a Halsey.” The gallerist’s style reflects her appreciation for modern art. She enjoys being creative with her wardrobe, often choosing dresses with prints that remind her of paintings. Here, the University of Tennessee art history graduate shares how she mixes her love of art and style.

Q How would you describe your style aesthetic?
A
Since I don’t have a corporate job, I like to take advantage of that and have a little fun with my style. Some days I feel like being a minimalist; some days my mood calls for big bright jewelry, such as this purple wood bead necklace from Worthwhile.

Q Which item do you pull out of your wardrobe most often?
A
Dresses are perfect for everything in this climate— going out to eat, going to work, taking out the trash. You don’t need a special occasion to throw on a dress, such as this midi from Hampden.

Q What are your favorite local boutiques?
A
Hampden is a treasure. Stacy Smallwood does an incredible job curating her store. I also go to RTW with my mom when she comes to visit. The staff there is so helpful, especially when you are looking for something special.

Q Do you have a signature item that you’re known for?
A
I have a charm necklace from HART jewelry that I wear all the time. Each charm means something special to me so it brings me comfort when I’m wearing it.

Q How is your style influenced by your appreciation for art?
A
I do love prints, especially bright and bold prints in the spring and summer. I love a fabric that reminds me of a favorite Impressionist painting, such as those by Erdem (above).

Q What was the first piece of art you bought? The most recent?
A
As soon as I graduated from college, I tried to add at least one piece of art to my collection every year. At the beginning that was difficult, but I’m so proud that I did it. Now I have a collection that reflects all the phases in my life. The most recent piece is from Raishad Glover, an artist I represent at the gallery. It’s a lenticular print, so when you walk by, it appears to move.

Q Tell us about your skin care routine. What are some of your must-have products?
A
I love everything that Sunday Riley makes. Juice Beauty has the best sunscreen (left), a must. Taking hot baths a few times a week does your body and soul good.
