Locals and their pooches already feel at home at this year-old watering hole, where the menu takes bar food to new heights.

A few blocks inland, tucked into the ground floor of a raised condo unit, LowLife Bar has found instant success. Patrons jockey for positions at the breezy indoor-outdoor U-shaped bar for house-muddled specialty cocktails and daily ceviche, plus rosé on tap, cava bubbles, and boozy slushies. The double cheeseburger with pickled veggies and addictive Old Bay waffle fries is so good you might fail to sample anything else on the chalkboard menu, but that would be a pity when you consider the toasted shrimp rolls or the wide-mouthed fried chicken sandwich. Take a moment to admire the walls of reclaimed wood that husband-and-wife restaurateurs T.J. and Cary Lynch sanded down themselves when they traded in their New York winters for life on The Edge.

Open Sunday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m., & Friday & Saturday, 10 a.m.-midnight, including daily brunch. 106 E. Hudson Ave., lowlifebar.com
