Perfect Fit: David and Emily Warren (left) designed the ideal house for their family of five—including kids (left to right) Lane, Greta, and Jack, plus golden retriever Wade—to grow into.
The 6,100-square-foot home on the banks of the Ashley River has five bedrooms, two playrooms, three laundry rooms, and a three-car garage with a workshop for David. A finished attic space functions as a workout room now but will be a great hangout for when the children become teens.
PARTY IN THE BACK: While the front exterior conforms to the neighborhood, the back is more modern, including a spacious outdoor kitchen, deck, and pool area. A 900-foot dock extends to a covered pierhead, perfect for chilling after some tubing behind the family’s boat.
Catch & Relax: The fully equipped kitchen from Plugs Appliances allows for cleaning and cooking the day’s catch. The adjacent outdoor furnishings from Teak + Table are accessorized with Walter G pillows from Celadon Home.
SPREAD OUT: The first floor’s open plan moves from living room to dining room to kitchen through a seamless space connected by white oak floors and accented by the natural light flooding through glass doors. The large sectional sofa by Lillian August is upholstered in a Perennials performance fabric for durability and, combined with a large dining table from Vanguard, provides plenty of room for big gatherings.
Pops of green throughout tie into the kitchen, where a bleached walnut island and cabinets painted in Sherwin Williams “Rosemary” create an organic vibe. Brass pendant lighting from Visual Comfort adds an element of sophistication.
work it: Situated just off the main living area and separated by a glass wall, this kids’ homework space feels fresh and bright. A Wildwood Home console painted in Sherwin Williams “Front Porch” fits three desks, one for each child, and provides storage for school supplies and games. Accents such as artwork from Charleston Artist Collective, a brass pendant light from Visual Comfort, and a cream rug from Loloi tie it in with the first-floor decor.
In the open kitchen, Water Street Brass hardware and durable quartz countertops complement the pale green cabinetry. A single glass-paned cabinet helps create symmetry with the plaster hood and the fireplace at the opposite end of the room.
A ROOM OF ONE’S OWN: Just off the kitchen, hidden behind two doors integrated into the cabinetry, a butler’s pantry featuring Tabarka handmade terra-cotta tile doubles as Emily’s home office.
Personal Quarters: Above the garage, a large guest suite with bunk beds and a separate guest room provides a destination for sleepovers, as well as hosting friends and family. The bunks and paneled walls, painted in Sherwin Williams “Inky Blue,” add a playful feel.
David’s office offers a change of pace. A dark wood Restoration Hardware desk, leather sofa from Four Hands, and shelves painted Benjamin Moore “Rosepine” create a calm space, perfect for contemplating the views over the marsh.
The cypress-paneled safe room for the family’s hunting gear features an electronic bolt as well as locking cabinets.
Viewfinder: Situated on the ground floor, the primary suite captures views of the marsh and the Ashley River beyond. A freestanding tub accented by a brass California Faucets fixture offers a sublime spot to soak up the scenery. Cabinets painted in Farrow and Ball “Parma Gray” are complemented by walls hand-painted by local artist Marian Pouch.
Serene Dream: The light-filled primary bedroom features an upholstered four-poster bed and Thibaut Design chairs. Artwork by Holland Sharon adds a pop of color to the peaceful space.
