The Party: The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art hosted the gallery’s 14th annual membership celebration, this year dubbed “Supermoon.” With beverages and hors d’oeuvres in hand, guests admired the Halsey’s latest exhibition, “Southbound,” a collection of striking photographs by various artists capturing modern life in the American South. Patrons posed for silly photos in the event’s signature moon photo booth and partook in the silent auction, including everything from an all-inclusive stay at the Dewberry to gift cards to local shops such as Sneaker, RTW, and Worthwhile. With live sets from duo Jake Fussell and Bill Steber and lively band Sweet Potato, as well as a plethora of student artwork on display alongside the traveling exhibition, the affair was a celebration of creativity in all forms, highlighting the Halsey’s work to bring a fine caliber of contemporary art and arts education to both C of C’s campus and the Charleston community.
The Highlight: A plethora of finger food to snack on, including miniature chicken and waffle bites
Overheard: “Come on, let’s get our annual picture on the moon!” (in reference to the beloved moon photo booth)
