Vuori, known for its elevated performance clothing for men and women, has opened on King Street.

Made to Move

Popular athleisure brand Vuori has brought its comfortable-yet-elevated joggers and tech pants to King Street, a short walk from Lululemon. The San Diego-based label, which launched in 2015 with its “Kore” shorts and introduced a women’s line in 2018, has expanded to more than 100 stores across the country. Look for the recently introduced outerwear and denim collections in addition to best sellers made with four-way stretch, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying fabrics designed to take customers from a workout to a coffee meeting to picking up the kids. Here Comes the Sun

Local jewelry designer Sydney Long has debuted her first SunVow storefront in the Ashley Artisan Suites in the Jasper building on Broad Street. The College of Charleston graduate launched her jewelry line during the 2019 holiday season, featuring distinctive gold pieces such as her “Valor” necklace with a tiger pendant and her “Sleeping Moon” necklace with a crescent. SunVow joins other health, beauty, and artist boutiques, such as hair, tanning, and lash salons, in a retail corridor tucked next to Alcove Market in the ground floor of the luxury apartment building. By the Books

Summer Anderson, whose husband’s grandfather founded Books-A-Million, is opening Ladybird Books in the former Quicksilver space at the corner of Liberty and King streets, joining independent booksellers Blue Bicycle Books, Buxton Books, and Sweeter than Fiction on downtown’s retail corridor. Anderson, an Alabama native who now lives in Charleston, has garnered a strong following on her Summer Says website and Instagram platform for her book recommendations and her belief that stories ”spark empathy, connection, and change.” The 1,760-square-foot store, expected to open this fall, will stock best-selling fiction, Southern fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks, and memoirs, as well as greeting cards, wrapping paper, and gifts. Expect Ladybird Books to host book readings and other events. This month, it will serve as the official bookseller of the Charleston Literary Festival, with a pop-up shop at the Dock Street Theatre from November 7-16. [299 King St., www.ladybirdbooks.org]
