Look for her second collaboration with Mitzi Lighting in June
After receiving positive feedback on social media posts of her home’s interiors, the former pharmaceutical sales rep launched her design firm and online store in 2018, becoming known for her “modern coastal aesthetic.” Three years later, Molten opened a “shoppable” warehouse and design studio in Mount Pleasant. Recently, she’s collaborated with Mitzi for a lighting line (the second collection is launching in June) and Cooper Classics on mirrors coming this fall. The interior designer is equally fond of fashion and has partnered with Francis + Benedict, Shrimp & Grits Kids, and Garland Bags (debuting this month). Here, Molten shares the color palette she’s using this season.
Q Are there any trends that you plan to incorporate this spring?
A I’ve gravitated toward shades of lavender lately in our design projects. I love the color, especially when mixed with blues and greens: it can look really coastal and elevated. A great way to incorporate lilac into your home is through paint, wallpaper, and textiles. We are painting a bedroom the softest color—Sherwin Williams “Sensitive Tint.”
Q Who are some of your favorite local artists and designers?
A I support local artists and makers as much as possible—Emily Daws, Emily Pope Harris, Danielle Cather-Cohen, Chelsea Goer, Jenn Griffith, Betsy Douglas, Ryan Beck, Shannon Wood, and Ellen Guerra. Jennifer Latimer is another textile artist I love to use for client projects. Her pieces, like this pillow (above), are beautiful. They are abstract, coastal, and use soft blues, grays, and greens.
Q Tell us about your collaboration with Savannah-based Garland Bags.
A They are made from my favorite textiles, as well as vintage designer scarves, and each has a fun, signature hardware piece.
Q Which local stores do you shop for clothing and accessories?
A Hampden Clothing, II Brunettes, and Hart. I hosted my team for an intention-setting workshop at Hart Studio, and we made necklaces and bracelets with her beautiful charms that all tell a story. I started a charm bracelet and plan on continuing to add to it. It’s such a special piece I can pass along to one of my girls one day. Hampden carries some of my most-loved brands, like Ganni. I’m loving their new chunky ballerina flats (above)—perfect for work.
Q What skin-care product could you not live without?
A As a girl with oily skin, I can promise you that you do not need to be afraid of oil-based cleansers. One Love cleansing oil (above, available at The Look and Co.) has been a game changer for me! It gets all of your makeup off before you even wash your face. It’s called two-step cleansing, and all the dermatologists swear by it for cleaner, clearer skin. I see the results of cleansing twice, and I love not having a trace of makeup on my face when I start my skin-care at night.
