Do any organic beauty products—say, eye cream or facial cleanser, lip gloss or hair mousse—hold places in your personal routine? If so, they may have been made just down the road on John’s Island. There, 34-year-old USDA-certified organic cosmetics manufacturer Royal Labs has been in operation since 2000, when owners Peggy and Paul Lieber established their current 16-acre campus.
Way before organic was hip, “we wanted to make a high-performing product, but without the chemicals,” recalls Paul. After launching Aroma Bella—a high-end line found in spas including Royal Labs’ on-site Cottage Aroma Bella—the pair developed a natural preservation system they knew they could use in formulating goods for others, too.
The Liebers today manufacture personal-care products for 500-some companies big and small while creating their in-house brands, Aroma Bella and Deep Steep, a fragrance-driven bath and body line sold in stores around the country. They just launched Deep Steep Baby, including ”Bottom Balm,” hand and body washes, and more tailored to the most sensitive of skins.
