There’s a romance to rare, decades-old cars—a beauty you don’t have to be a “gearhead” to appreciate. Don’t believe it? Try attending one of the two motoring fests rolling into the Lowcountry this fall.

First is the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance, which revs up with the October 25th to 27th Speed Classic on Savannah’s Hutchinson Island. At the Grand Prize of America Track, you can not only watch the points series races but ride with pro drivers at racing speeds, test the track in your own vehicle, venture into the paddock, and more.

The fun continues in Hilton Head the following weekend, when the Port Royal Golf Club hosts Saturday’s Car Club Jamboree and Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance. The latter includes 24 classes of motorcycles and cars—from pre-1916 one-cylinders to vintage Porsches. Find info at

Closer to home is the Kiawah Island Motoring Retreat November 15th to 17th. Saturday’s main event on the River Course showcases more than 75 concours-level (they’re in the same or better condition as when they left the production line) classic, antique, exotic, and special interest cars. Proceeds benefit the Kiawah Island Conservancy and the Children’s Hospital of South Carolina at MUSC. Learn more at
