Scraps of Magic is hosting a grand re-opening in time for back-to-school shopping

Scraps of Magic offers age-appropriate fashion for teens.

After having trouble finding cute, age-appropriate clothes for her tween daughter, Elizabeth Baldwin took matters into her own hands, opening Scraps of Magic in March 2020. The aqua-splashed, two-story boutique tucked off of King Street carries clothing for girls ages seven to adult, including brands such as Splendid, Hayden, Habitual Girl, and For All Seasons.

Baldwin’s maternal instincts and knowledge of popular styles helped her create a safe, fun, and inviting oasis for her clients. “Everything I saw was either too ‘little girl’ looking, way too mature, or covered in glitter and logos and cheaply made. Kids today are just a little bit different,” she says.

Operating a virtual store since 2018, Baldwin’s brick-and-mortar boutique closed after only 12 days due to COVID. This sent her into “survival mode” cold-calling potential customers and selling Easter baskets with fuzzy socks, stickers, and more.

Baldwin, who reopened in late April, creates fun themed shoots by local photographer Erin Turner, often posted to Instagram and modeled by happy young customers.

She plans to incorporate cream tones and wool coats into her fall and winter offerings and will host a grand reopening celebration during back-to-school season (her busiest months). She also plans to include her customers as models in a fashion show on October 22, complete with a red carpet. “They get to try something on and feel amazing, that’s the whole premise,” Baldwin says. “It’s like they found a secret spot just for them.”
