Style Q&A - COLOR by K lifestyle blogger Kristin Chambless shares her holiday decorating tips and what’s on her wish list
December 2020

After moving from Florida to Charleston with her now-husband in 2017, the blogger rebranded her website to COLOR by K, expanding her content from fashion to include beauty, travel, and home decor. While the pandemic has slowed down some collaboration opportunities, Kristin, like many of us, has enjoyed focusing on home projects and finding inspiration in her everyday life. She’s also making plans to grow the entertaining and event styling content for her website and 79,000 Instagram followers. Here, she shares her holiday decorating tips and what’s on her wish list

Q What’s on your holiday wish list?
A
We recently purchased a new home, so I think it’s safe to say new light fixtures and Home Depot gift cards are in my future. I also would be thrilled with a new pair of LAKE Pajamas (my all-time favorites) or a restock of my go-to M-61 ”PowerGlow” facial peels [available at Bluemercury]

Q Which colors are you looking out for in 2021?
A
I’m crushing on warmer hues lately: true brown, cognac, tan, etc. Brown is making a huge comeback right now.

Q What’s your favorite winter clothing must-have?
A
A well-tailored coat; there’s something incredibly chic about a perfectly fitted coat in the winter, something that pairs well with layers and can be dressed up or down. J. Crew’s ”Daphne Topcoat” is one of my favorites.

Q How are you decorating your home for the holidays?
A
I love to incorporate colors that exist in my home within holiday decor. I also love hanging fresh garland along the staircase and continuing the tradition of putting a single wreath with a simple bow on each outdoor window

Q Do you have a signature accessory?
A
A statement earring; I don’t feel complete leaving the house without at least a pair of studs, but especially on a night out, a colorful pair of Hart tassels or Nicola Bathie dangles are a must. They’re a great way to jazz up a look with minimal effort.

Q What do you do for self-care and wellness?
A
I took the plunge during quarantine and hopped on the Peloton bandwagon—best decision! I love having quick, easy access to a ride or strength workout on the app to start my day. When I splurge a little, I’m a big fan of a spa facial at The Woodhouse Day Spa. There’s something extremely soothing about being lathered up in luxurious skin care

Q Tell us about your skin- care and makeup routine.
A
My skin-care must-haves include Beautycounter’s ”Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser,” SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum, and Ole Henriksen ”Banana Bright Eye Cream.” In terms of makeup, I keep things pretty light: CC cream or light-coverage foundation, Nars ”Radiant Creamy Concealer” to brighten a bit, Laura Mercier ”Translucent Loose Setting Powder” to lock everything in and reduce oil production, a touch of blush, and IT Cosmetics “Superhero” mascara.
