Since returning to Charleston in 2017, the jewelry designer has grown her eponymous business, which she debuted in 2008, creating sustainably made, modern, gold pieces that can be worn every day. The Newberry native, who often visited Sullivan’s Island for vacations, graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in Los Angeles and studied fabrication in New York. In 2019, Cooper launched Conscious Casting, an in-house, all-female manufacturing team that handcrafts all of her styles. Look for Jane Pope Jewelry to release new collections this fall. Here, the designer shares how she layers her pieces.
Q: How do you describe your style aesthetic?
A: I like a capsule wardrobe of great staples that make a good backdrop for elevated jewelry and accessories. I love everything at Nette, my favorite Charleston boutique. Their pieces are so versatile, making it easy to mix, match, and style them in countless ways. The Posse sets are especially great, whether worn together or paired with other items. I can see these shorts transitioning into fall with a light sweater.
Q: Tell us about one of your favorite designs and how you style it.
A: I am currently dying over the JP lavender mixed-sapphire cuff bracelet. I love the hues of it and how they look paired with my everyday stack of bracelets. It sounds like a lot, but they all wear very comfortably and look incredible together!
Q: Tell us about a recent clothing purchase.
A: I own nearly all of Heather Sullivan’s Vincent James collection, and for good reason—each piece is incredibly versatile, easily transitioning from day to evening. My latest addition is the “Hutton,” an ice-blue, linen button-down shirt. I’m so excited to wear this piece on repeat—it’s destined to become a staple.
Q: Tell us about your skin-care and makeup routine.
A: I am an Ella Ora ride or die. I use MBR products daily, including the ”Three in One Cleanser,” along with Ella Ora’s tinted sunscreen in “natural glow”. I keep my routine pretty simple but consistent—same steps, same order, every day.
Q: Who is a favorite local maker?
A: Ben Little is a talented high-end custom furniture maker and friend who collaborates with some of Charleston’s top interior designers. Recently, he’s curated a stunning collection of his own designs that he is beginning to offer for sale. My favorite is the custom table he created for my porch—it’s perfect for entertaining.
