What began as a therapeutic creative outlet for Neke Choice during a difficult period has transformed into growing home fragrance brand Nivori Candles.
In 2020, Choice and her daughter started crafting candles, selling them to neighbors under the name “Southern Tot Collection.” This activity sparked joy that gradually pulled Evans out of depression. “The moment I realized that I didn’t feel bad about myself anymore [was when] I saw my mom and my daughter making candles together,” says Choice, recalling when her healing journey transformed into a business. “That tradition, one generation helping the next, was beautiful.”
Choice eventually rebranded to “Wiks and Stone“ and now to “Nivori Candles.” The name “Nivori” was derived from an ancient Madagascar word meaning “gather,” and reminds her not to worry. Rather than making an abrupt change, she has taken her customers on the rebranding journey, sharing the process on social media, creating an experience that strengthens loyalty and allows her audience to be part of the creative process.
Choice plans to expand Nivori’s fragrance collection from 24 to 30 candle scents and 10 perfumes by fall, bringing back best-sellers and introducing seasonal options. Nivori’s signature stone vessels are refillable, and the brand’s coffee cup candles transition to their intended purpose after burning, emphasizing her commitment to eco-conscious home fragrance solutions.
Choice’s business philosophy remains grounded: “What works for us is letting it happen and letting it come to us instead of chasing anything,” she says.
