GFM Woodworks crafts sleek seats

Sam Maloof, who died in 2009, is remembered as one of America’s finest contemporary furniture craftsmen, with his pieces making their way into institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Today, Daniel Island retiree Gordon Manning is carrying on a bit of Maloof’s legacy, carving stunning rocking chairs inspired by his sleek, sculptural designs. ”I love the way Maloof’s pieces flow,” says Manning, who crafts his own seats from woods like walnut and tiger maple, which he also uses to make lamps (complete with wood veneer shades), tables, and more.
