Plus, get your Island Provisions fix at the new Cannonborough/ Elliotborough shop

Huriyali
Opening seven years after the original downtown location, this colorful, vegan-friendly café in Riverland Terrace features a reduced menu from owners Ruchi Mistry and Tom McFall with an oversized outdoor patio welcoming young families, working professionals, and college students alike. The Farrah’s Green Grits are made with Marsh Hen Mill grits, seasonal roasted veggies from Spade & Clover Gardens, and charred tomatoes with kale butter sauce. Other standouts include the vibrant acai and buddha bowls, as well as the “healthiest nachos in town” loaded with fragrant spiced lentils and savory cashew cheese. The London Sea Latte, sky-blue with homemade lavender syrup, is perfect for slow sipping; those on the go should check the lobby fridge, stocked with kombucha, sparkling water, pressed juices, and local beer. huriyali.com

Island Provisions
Good news for peninsula dwellers who’ve found themselves driving to John’s Island for their Island Provisions fix: The all-day café and market has brought its winning formula of breakfast sandwiches, Second State coffee drinks, solid lunch options, and spot-on selection of specialty goods to Cannonborough/Elliotborough. With an L-shaped coffee counter and a scattering of tables inside, as well as outdoors on the piazza, the sunny storefront on St. Philip Street beckons customers to linger over, say, mustard and tarragon chicken salad on a croissant (or on surprisingly good gluten-free bread) and a mango and carrot smoothie spiked with ginger and tumeric. Come 3 p.m., the menu shifts to snacks such as toast topped with whipped feta-hot honey or smoked trout with dill crème fraîche, either of which would make a lovely light supper with a bottle of wine pulled from the tightly curated shelves. And bonus: no corkage fee. islandprovisions.com
