From a rabbit rescue to an artful proposal, the owner of Stems floral design studio offers a look into her colorful life

A Sparkle in
Her Step:

“I have a weakness for shoes, especially sparkly flats. Otherwise, I don’t shop much—my chic mom still sends me clothes!”

Winning Design:

“This coffee table was in my childhood home. Opened up, it turns into a table for playing bagatelle, which is similar to pool.”

Cooking for a Crowd:

“Dave gave me this Valdes painting—it hangs in our kitchen facing the stove, so it feels like you’re cooking in front of an audience.”

Time Honored:

“This watch was a gift from my mom. Every time I check it, I think of her.”

Foggy Memory:

“Dave and I bought this weather vane at Bin 152 late one night. Walking home, one of us carried the spear and one the cow. We kept running into people we knew who were like, ‘what is this?’ It’s a fun memory.”

Bloom Mobile:

“I deliver flowers in this 1965 International Harvester Metro, which my brother gave me for my birthday. It desperately needs to be repainted.”

Good Question:

“Dave proposed by giving me a ‘choose your own adventure’ book that he’d asked Nathan Durfee to illustrate.”

The Details:

Off Hours: “I’m in a Theatre 99 improv group called ‘Cats Hugging Cats.’ And I sail—I competed for College of Charleston.”

Growing Room: “I’m very excited, because we’re turning the parking lot behind our house into a backyard, designed by JR Kramer. In Charleston, you’ve got to be able to sit outside!”

Bunny Love: “We got our rabbit, Norma, after we spotted her running down Smith Street on our way home from a cocktail party. I tucked and rolled out of the car and managed to catch her. We put up signs, but all we got were prank calls.”
